“Overcome the World”

“Overcome the World”

Have you ever slowed down to contemplate and comprehend how incredible it is to be called a friend of Jesus? I mean exactly how or even why would God’s son be willing to demote himself from such a place of prestige to make himself available and accessible to those he created. Maybe you’ve experienced a close friend sacrifice something very precious to them; their time, money, expertise or donate an organ to improve your health? The disciple’s willingness to let go of their personal ways of doing or thinking of things to become servants obedient to their Rabbi’s teachings eventually culminates in them being referred to by Jesus as friends.

“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” John 15: 13-15

Earlier in this same chapter, Jesus talks about how branches of the vines need to be pruned in effort to bear good fruit. He further comments how pertinent it is to understand that no branch can bear fruit by itself. So, it would be wise and prudent for the branches (us) to remain connected to the vine (Christ).

Because of the father’s love for his son, the son’s love is passed to us that we may in turn learn to love each other. God has equipped us with everything we need in this world via the Counselor (The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth)! So, no matter if you have cellular phone service or not? Stand firm in your faith, in the days to come and above all else, know you have a friend in Jesus who will remain closer than a brother. Finally, John 16: 33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this word you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
