From the moment Jesus was introduced into human history as part of God’s perfect plan, nothing has ever been the same. Any time in history that Christianity and discipleship have taken root, cultures have been completely reshaped. The message of Christ does not simply add a layer to what already exists; it transforms it.
In the Roman Empire, Christianity entered a brutal world. General violence, infanticide, and the devaluing of women and the poor were a normal thing. As the gospel spread, it introduced the radical idea that every human being bears the image of God. Over time, this belief led to the care of widows and orphans, the dignity of women, and the rejection of evil things. Christians also championed the building of hospitals and the creation of charities during this time.
In Europe, Africa, Asia, and eventually America, the teachings of Jesus emphasized forgiveness, mercy, and the worth of every individual. Christianity made life better for many who were thought to be second class citizens. Christians taught truth and fought for change when the words of Christ demanded it. The abolition of the slavery in America and Britain was driven by Christians who believed that enslaving human beings contradicted the gospel. Public education systems and organized care for the poor often came from concerned Christians using their talents to serve and glorify God in a big way. Of course, imperfect humans have sometimes distorted the message of Christ, but the heart of Christian discipleship has consistently pushed believers toward justice, compassion, and hope for mankind.
The transforming power of Jesus is not limited to nations and cultures. It also happens within individuals. The same Christ who changes empires changes hearts. When Jesus enters a life, the Spirit is not just layered into what is already there, it changes everything! This is a great test of your Christian walk. Old habits should lose their grip. Forgiveness should replace bitterness. Purpose should replace aimlessness. Above all, love should become the central focus of your interaction with others. This is what makes the body of Christ so attractive to those who don’t believe.
When you are alive in Christ, change should not surprise you. Following Jesus means surrendering control and allowing God to reshape us according to His will. That process can be uncomfortable, but it is always good because it is within the good, perfect, and pleasing will of God. Jesus never leaves things as they are; He makes them new.
If Christ has truly entered our lives, transformation is not optional; it is inevitable and should be expected. And just as history shows, when Jesus enters the picture, everything changes!
