One of Northside’s greatest strengths and blessings is Bible study; on Sundays and Wednesdays, a couple of guys over lunch, many Tuesday mornings for the ladies. We are people of God’s word. But what is the purpose of our study? Why do we study God’s word?
Maybe we study to prepare to teach a class, or we’re curious about a specific passage, or we return to a favorite Old Testament story. There can also be a higher purpose to our study – we should study God’s word to prepare us for service.
Healing Grace Step Study is a 6-month, in-depth Bible study that will prepare you for service. In this study, we will examine ourselves and study God’s word so that we are better prepared to serve others who need His grace. We’ve had more than 125 graduates in this course, and despite different backgrounds and levels of maturity, there has been one common theme: “I want to be able to help others, but first, I need to fix some things in my life.”
Step Study is associated with our Celebrate Recovery ministry, where we help folks overcome their “hurts, habits and hang-ups”. We address salvation, but mainly, we work on recovery (demonstrated by an improved, deeper walk in the grace and power of God). It’s possible to be saved and continue to live an unhappy and miserable life, but why would anyone want that? There is power and healing in a God-blessed recovery.
Step Study is an intense and personal study that will enable you to walk alongside people in their recovery. But before we can serve in this way, first we must build our faith and strengthen our walk in Christ. For many of us, the first challenge is to overcome our complacency. These are possible signs of complacency in a follower of Christ:
- You can’t remember the last time you walked alongside a less mature Christian.
- For a very long time, you’ve been grateful (and satisfied) in your walk of faith.
- It’s been too long since you were challenged in your service to God.
After Step Study graduation, to what service will God call you? There aren’t any “CR strings” attached to Healing Grace Step Study, but if you commit yourself to this study, God’s power will transform your life and prepare you for service. Our God and Father has already planned works of service for each of us (Ephesians 2.10).
Beginning Sunday, September 18, 5:30-7:00 each Sunday evening. Now you’re invited.
