Christmas Wish List

Christmas Wish List

Dear Santa,

I know it’s a busy season for you. You are undoubtedly extremely busy with making the list, checking it twice, categorizing the naughty and the nice, etc. And with about two billion children in the world, it also means a lot of work loading the sleigh and making deliveries around the world (though I heard you are now getting help from Amazon). So, with all that going on, I hate to put anything else on you, but I hear you take requests. And, well, I have a few for the  family at Northside in the coming year…

  1. More Bible reading: Our Shepherds are giving each family a brand-new Bible reading plan for 2024. (They wanted to save you from having to do one more thing.) They really want everyone to be more intentional about reading God’s Word daily. In a world of major distractions and minute attention spans, Christians are spending less time in the Bible and more time on their phones. We’d like to begin reversing that trend. We’d like to see more modern families reading and discussing the Ancient Words.
  1. More Bible living: Reading the Bible is good. However, living it out is even better. Reading it is good, but doing it makes the impact. So, in addition to more Bible reading, we’d also like to see more Bible doing. We’d like to see more repentance, more obedience, more people coming to Christ, more people serving others, and more folks maturing in their walk with Him. This will mean less living for self and more walking in the Spirit. It will mean more folks engaging in the body of Christ, living out His commands daily, and stepping outside their comfort zones.
  1. Greater focus on Jesus: As we look around and see the condition of our world, it is abundantly clear that now, more than ever, our world desperately needs Jesus. As our ancient foe tries his best to divide and distract us from our mission, we’ll need an even greater focus on the King and His Kingdom. “…Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Heb. 12:1-2)

Those are the big three. And I am fully aware that they are big requests, so I realize they may not all get in the sleigh this Monday. But thanks for getting your team of elves on it.

I know most people leave you milk & cookies, but you know I’m a Chick-fil-A™ guy, so I’ll leave you the Spicy Deluxe Chicken sandwich and a Peppermint Chip Milkshake, because we all know that’s way yummier than a boring old glass of milk!
