One of the great blessings of being part of the Northside church family is that we have a lot of areas where you can serve. Still, sometimes good people have trouble finding a match for their skills and their schedule. As we begin 2026, Northside has many good people already doing good things, but we need your help. We need more folks looking for a ministry where they can serve the Lord.
Northside is blessed with “good demographics,” meaning that we have a wide age range within our church family. We have a lot of children and teens, we have young adults, and we have several old(er) adults! Our Senior Member Support (SMS) ministry needs more good workers to serve those older adults.
SMS works to bless our senior members. We send cards each month with a personal note. We make telephone calls and visits to get better acquainted with our seniors and lessen the loneliness in their lives. Some SMS workers do light lawn care or snow shoveling around their homes, we help our seniors with transportation to and from services or doctor visits, and there are many other service opportunities.
Northside seniors are a lot like the rest of us! They have strong faith, they are agreeable and friendly, they have good days and bad days, but they are a blessing to almost everyone. The biggest difference for most of our senior members is that they have fewer opportunities for fellowship. In some cases, they could use a little help with daily tasks.
Our SMS ministry workers would tell you these kinds of things about working in this ministry:
- “Every time I call or visit a Northside senior, it’s not an even trade! I’m blessed much more than my service.”
- “My schedule doesn’t allow a specific time each week, but I really look forward to my next opportunity.”
- “The fellowship, getting to know another Northsider, is always such a blessing.”
- “When I think of the years of faithful service already given by Northside seniors, I’m trying to help them when I can.”
