The Bible overflows with wisdom and inspiration. At a recent small group meeting I asked everyone to tell us their favorite verse. Each one had a passage to share; some more than one. Below are a few our favorites.
1 Samuel 17:48 – When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. (Kathy Bishop)
Isaiah 41:10 – Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Natalie Carrera)
Micah 6:8 – What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (James Wilson)
Psalm 119:71 – It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes. (Cathy Hall)
Psalm 34:18 – The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. (Brenda Block)
Habakkuk 3:17,18 – Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. (Kimberlee Yeakley)
Psalm 19:14 – Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight. (Bob Eroh)
Proverbs 3:5,6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Cindy Woods)
Revelation 22:20 – He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! (Gary Brown)
2 Timothy 1:7 – God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (Betty Ford)
2 Corinthians 1:3-5 – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. (Debbie Groves)
Ephesians 3:20,21 – Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. (Rhonda Eroh)
