My name is Jackson Norton. I’m 21 years old and I am from Longview, Texas, which is about two hours east of Dallas. I am a junior at York University and I am a Bible major. At York, I am involved in Choir, Celebration Singers, and help out where I can with the college ministry. York has always been a part of my family’s lives. My mom and dad met there, my sister and her husband met there, my aunt and uncle live there, and my uncle is the Vice President at the University. I enjoy being at a place that is so important and cherished by my loved ones. In my free time, I like spending time with friends, finding a new project to work on, playing guitar, fishing, kayaking, and just overall spending time outdoors.
I am very excited to be here in Wichita working with the youth group this summer! I was heavily involved in my youth group growing up and experienced firsthand how this can be some of the most transformational years of your life. This will also be a great opportunity to exercise my new knowledge and skills I’ve gained while studying as a Bible major this past school year. Over the years, I have grown a passion to learn about Jesus and share the good news with others. Being at York has pushed me exponentially beyond my comfort zone and taught me how to effectively communicate the gospel with others and serve local churches.
This past semester, some of the Bible majors started traveling on the weekends to smaller churches in the area to preach and teach a Bible lesson on Sunday mornings. This has been such a blessing in my life to have the opportunity to help out smaller churches in Nebraska and be given an opportunity to practice different kinds of ministry.
My favorite Bible verse is Matthew 11:28-30. This is all-around such an inviting verse and shows the love of the Father revealed through the Son. I confide in this verse in times that I feel alone or unsettled and it puts me at peace.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone and building relationships with everyone, both in the youth group and in the congregation. I would ask if you could pray for wisdom, discernment, and guidance for me this summer as I navigate through life and trust God to lead me where he is calling me to be and what he is calling me to do!
