Hurray for Food, Family, and Fellowship!

Hurray for Food, Family, and Fellowship!

For many years, Northsiders have enjoyed sharing meals together occasionally on Wednesday nights. A team of volunteers used to prepare dinners for several weeks in a row, which was a great way for our members to fellowship, but it wore out the cooks and other volunteers.

After a long pandemic break, those meals were restarted, but in a scaled-back way. In 2022, we began offering Family Fellowship Meals on the first Wednesday of each month, featuring simple, home-cooked food from 5:30 to 6:30, taking a break during the summer months.

Lori Dunham and Jamie Womack are the co-leaders of this important ministry. According to them, the purpose of the meals is to give members and guests a chance to fellowship and get to know each other without having to prepare dinner themselves and without overworking the ministry volunteers.

Are you looking for a way to serve others and make new friends? Jamie and Lori need volunteers to help each month with cooking, setup, serving, drinks, cleanup, and dishwashing. Talk with one of them if you’d like to help.

At the most recent meal this past week, I asked some of the happy diners why they like the meals:

  • Mia Westwood: I love it that I don’t have to cook supper on those nights. The food is so good, sometimes I pay for more meals and take them home to eat later.
  • Jarud Griffith: It’s great food and good company!
  • Blake Alexander: At these dinners, I get to spend time with my church family.
  • Calion Denton: I like coming to church, and on these nights we get to come early!
  • Pat Herrington: I love the bread!
  • Paul Herrington: I love the bread!
  • Terry Kingsley: I enjoy eating these dinners with my Prayer Pal.
  • Matt Babiash: We’re so busy on Wednesdays that we usually eat out. This food is WAY better, plus I get to visit with my brothers and sisters!
