Just One Example of Christian Service at Northside

Northside can be described in several ways: Faithful – Generous – Loving – Passionate – Sharing.  Perhaps my favorite description would be Serving.  Consider these Bible verses:

“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3.18).  “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” (Gal 6.10). “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”  (Gal 6.2).  Maybe it comes from a formal ministry, maybe it comes from an informal call for assistance, but Northside often goes ‘above and beyond’.

Let me tell you about a recent example of Christian service.   Northside has several ‘repeat guests’ (Sundays, Thursdays and other days), some with typical requests, but sometimes, we have a unique situation.  The details are almost always unimportant to Northsiders: when we have a Christian brother or sister, and they need our help, how can we get the job done?

This situation required several people to get it done.  This case called for some ‘church money’, already offered to Northside via our Member Care budget.  One member gathered the necessary information; someone else had the time (and the heart) for this specific individual to take the lead.  Other individuals covered the details and coordinated the work, and somebody loaned the requisite pick-up truck!  Three other Northsiders had the time and muscle to execute the plan.

One day last week, starting around 9am, the job was done by   8 pm, and our valued guest (blessed by the service of faithful Christians) ended their day in a much brighter place than where they started that day.  They thanked Northside, and they praised God, and they probably shared their good fortune with friends and neighbors.

Don’t wait for a structured ministry – keep your eyes open for opportunities to serve one another.  And always, thank you.  “…Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”  Matt 5.16
