Calling All Workers…The Harvest Is Ripe!
“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’” (Matthew 9:36-38)
The Harvest is Here. When Jesus talked about the harvest in these passages, His eyes were on the people right in front of Him. As we support all the exciting mission efforts through Northside with our prayers, finances, and talents, let us not forget about the bountiful harvest right in front of us, within our very own church building walls…the hearts of our children.
The Harvest Is Ripe. Jesus said in John 4:35, “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” When wheat is ready to be harvested, it turns a golden color. That changes to white before it falls to the ground, warning farmers that their chance to reap what has been sown is coming to an end. Statistics show that 85% of people who come to Christ do so before the age of 18. Time is short and these critical years are the most formative to shape a child’s heart for the kingdom of God. Let’s do all we can to take advantage of this brief window of opportunity with the Northside children!
The Harvest is Eternal. Besides being here and now, the harvest has a lasting impact. It’s worth the effort it takes to work in the fields because the fruit that comes from it is eternal. We need to use the tools, talents, knowledge, experience, and wisdom that God has blessed us with to bless the children in the children’s wings at Northside. They need our ministry, our godly example, our wisdom, and our love. They need our willingness to invest in their lives by making an intentional effort to form connections with them, to teach, help, and guide them in their Bible classes and in their daily lives.
Since the Harvest is here, ripe, and eternal, please pray earnestly for more laborers, as Jesus told His disciples to in Matthew. When we trust that God has prepared the fields and will produce good fruit, we must be faithful to sow the seed, help the plants grow, and reap the harvest in the hearts of our precious children.
