New Deacon Introduction – Matt Babiash

New Deacon Introduction – Matt Babiash

On October 6, nine current deacons committed to serve for two more years, and one new deacon, Matt Babiash, was appointed to lead the Member Care ministry. For those who don’t know Matt and his family, this article will serve as a brief introduction.

Matt & Kimberly grew up in Amarillo, TX. He has a bachelor’s degree in biology and she has a bachelor’s degree in business, a master’s in business administration, and a medical doctorate.

Matt worked as a painter in college and started his own business in the painting industry after college. Kimberly has been an anesthesiologist since she finished her residency in 2010. Both love waterskiing and spending time on the water. They also love snow skiing. Matt also enjoys rock climbing and ice climbing.

The Babiashes have been very active at Northside since they became members in 2006. Matt has taught Bible class, worked as an usher and a greeter, and is a small group leader for the current 9th grade boys in the youth group. He also serves as the missions committee’s liaison for our missionaries in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Kimberly has taught women’s Bible classes, she leads one of the Connect Bible studies, and she teaches in children’s classes in the Safari wing. She uses her professional training to assist with the Medical Emergency Response Team. And finally, she helps care for children in the Sunday morning nursery.

Cooper and Kate attend the Classical School of Wichita. He is 12 and is in 7th grade. Cooper enjoys waterskiing, snow skiing, soccer, and basketball.

Kate is 10 and is in 5th grade. She enjoys waterskiing, snow skiing, and   volleyball. Kate also loves doing crafts.

The Babiashes began working with Member Care in April. Matt believes it’s an important ministry because many of our members need financial or physical assistance. He said the widows of the congregation are a top priority and deserve our help as the Bible instructs us. They also help non-members who might be struggling in hopes that they will see Jesus’ love through the church.

Adam & Jennifer Melendy also help with the Member Care ministry, and Matt says they all work well together. He said Jennifer and Kimberly are a tremendous help on the team, especially in situations where they are helping single women.
