Ronnie & Connie Williams have owned and operated Sports Burger near Douglas & Hillside since 1999. Click here for a 2021 review of the restaurant, currently open Tuesday-Saturday, 5-8 pm. Ronnie was born in North Carolina and raised in Wichita since the age of 2. He graduated from South High School and went to WSU for two years. Ronnie worked in the aircraft industry for 15 years in inventory control and industrial engineering. After a layoff in 1998, the Williamses decided to open the restaurant since they were both experienced cooks. Connie was born in Wichita and raised near Mulvane, graduating from high school there in 1985. She also studied at WSU for a couple of years, and then they were married in 1988. The couple has three grown children, one in Texas and two in Wichita, and three grandchildren. Ronnie enjoys reading (especially history), woodworking, and remodeling. Connie likes to cook, sew, crochet, and garden.

Darroll & Kay Williams have been married 64 years and have lived in Valley Center since 1967. He grew up in Peabody, and after high school, he served in the Army for two years as a tank driver in Germany. When he was discharged, they got married, but after their first child was born, he was called back into active service in 1961 during the Berlin crisis when the wall was built by the Soviet Union. After he ended his Army career for good, Darroll began a career driving trucks and buses that lasted 50 years. At the age of 65 he tried to retire, but as he has no hobbies, he got bored and drove for a truck dealership 15 more years. All total, he figures he has driven about 4 million miles, all accident-free. Kay grew up on a farm near Cedar Point and graduated from Florence High School. She worked 20 years for Walmart setting up the women’s clothing department in new stores. The Williamses have two sons and a daughter who died of breast cancer nine years ago. They also have four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with three more on the way.

She has worked as a nanny for the same family for a year. Emily is now training to be a certified Holy Spirit-led life coach. She enjoys singing, playing the guitar, hiking and other outdoor activities, and creating art using just about any media. Emily sings with the Northside Singers. The Herzes have a lab/pit bull mix named Odin and a German short-haired pointer named Tucker. Emily’s parents are John & Cammie Nelson and her brother is Jace Nelson.
