Mark & Marilee Cox moved to Wichita from Topeka in 2021. He was born there, raised in Dover, and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1975. Mark served in the Marines four years, and then in 1980 he began a 40-year career with Southwestern Bell (later AT&T), working first as a lineman and then a cable splicer. He retired in 2020. He enjoys fishing, home remodeling, and spending time with grandchildren. Marilee was born in Oklahoma City and raised in Loraine, KS. She grew up attending the Lyons Church of Christ. In 1980, Marilee graduated from Oklahoma Christian College with a degree in elementary education/special education and later earned a master’s degree in reading intervention. She taught for 30 years in Wichita, Windom, and Topeka and retired in 2016. Marilee enjoys reading, sewing, and fishing. The Coxes have been married for 20 years, and together they have six children and 18 grandchildren with one more expected in January.
Kevin & Cathy Bennett moved to Wichita right after they were married in 1993. He grew up in Great Bend, then moved to Hutchinson when he was in 8th grade, where he started riding the JOY Bus to attend the Eastwood Church of Christ. His drivers were two men Northsiders will recognize: Van Harrold and Clint Petty. Kevin went to York College and then to Oklahoma Christian College, where he graduated with a degree in youth ministry in 1989. For the past 22 years, Kevin has worked at CCH doing technical support. His hobbies are building computers and smoking different meats. Cathy grew up in Harper. She attended Hutchinson Community College, Emporia State, and then earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1997 from WSU. She worked as an RN for Ascension Via Christi for 22 years, and for the past two years for Progressive Home Health. She enjoys gardening, reading, and crafting. The Bennetts have two daughters. Sylvia (23) lives in Wichita and Adelyn (16) is an 11th grader in the Kansas Connections Academy. Her favorite subject is English, and she enjoys writing, singing, and playing her guitar. She has a Jack Russell Terrier named Minnie. Addie wants to attend York or Oklahoma Christian.
Russel & Judith Clancy are unable to leave home, but they watch our livestream worship and Know Your Bible every Sunday and have felt like Northside members for a long time. Russel was born in Albuquerque, NM, and raised in Muskogee, OK. After high school, he served in the Navy for four years and they married when he got out. Russel worked for the FAA for 35 years, retiring in 1994. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could fix anything. Judith was born in Altus, OK, and raised in Muskogee. She studied at the local junior college for two years and worked briefly in accounting and as a teacher. For most of her life, though, Judith was a stay-at-home mom. Over the years, Russel & Judith lived in Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Puerto Rico, and Kansas, and they’ve been in Wichita since 1971. Judith enjoyed gardening, baking, and crafts. At their previous church, Russel volunteered with the audio/visual ministry and Judith ran the church library and the teachers’ resource room. The Clancys have two grown children: Keith is retired and lives in Huntsville, AL, and Karen lives in Wichita. Sadly, Russel now has Alzheimer’s and Judith is experiencing short-term memory challenges, but Karen tells me they are happy to be recognized as members of the church they have felt a part of for so long.
