Northside Watchers
“For thus the Lord said to me: ‘Go, set a watchman; let him announce what he sees.’” Isaiah 21:6 (ESV)
The Northside Watchers ministry is seeking dedicated men and women who share a deep concern for the safety and well-being of our church family. While our elders are primarily responsible for the spiritual care of the church, they fully recognize the importance of maintaining a secure environment for everyone who gathers here.
Serving as deacon over the Watchers has, by God’s grace, been largely uneventful. On a few occasions, we have respectfully approached individuals sitting in vehicles in the parking lot or greeted guests who appeared hesitant. In most cases, these individuals were simply waiting for someone inside or feeling nervous about entering. We have also been able to assist with minor medical situations, often by connecting individuals with doctors or nurses from within our congregation who provided care and comfort.
Looking ahead, I plan to offer a CPR certification class for the entire congregation. This training will benefit our youth seeking babysitting opportunities as well as adults who desire to be better prepared in the event of an emergency.
In addition, the elders and I are actively exploring ways to strengthen our physical security measures both inside and outside the building. As our congregation continues to grow in visibility—particularly through the success of Know Your Bible—we recognize the need for greater vigilance. Because our biblical convictions differ from many in today’s culture, we must be prepared for the possibility that some may choose confrontation rather than respectful dialogue. For this reason, we are also considering training in de-escalation techniques and proper response measures.
If you have a heart for service, relevant experience, or skills in security, training, or safety enhancement, we would value your involvement. Please email me at Pearman0844@gmail.com if you’d like to volunteer with the Watchers ministry or have questions.
