Our God Does Not Change

Our God Does Not Change

Do we ever discount the Old Testament? Do we limit the historic teachings of God to children’s study time? How can we keep God’s Old Testament promises and exhortations alive in 2026?

When Moses died, God turned to Joshua and exhorted/encouraged the man who would lead Israel into Canaan. His words are still alive and important to Northside today.

“Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them – the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.” (Joshua 1.2-3) When Northside moves forward to serve God, we must be prepared for action and be confident in God’s power. God blessed Israel as they crossed Jordan – He will bless Northside when we boldly continue His work.

“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Joshua 1.5) Our confidence must not be based on our own strength, but rather on His presence and His providence. Jehovah God walked with Abraham, and with Moses, and with David. Because He will also walk with us, we move forward with courage and         optimism.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1.7-8) Our confidence and our courage today is supported by our dedication to the Word of God. There is danger to the left and to the right. We are commanded to study and obey His Word. When we meditate on His Word, when we compare any other ideas or teachings to the Bible, we have the promise that God will bless His people with success.

Joshua led the nation of Israel into the Promised Land and they were successful. The fight was not easy – the obedience of the people was inconsistent – the enemy fought Israel every step of the way. “God, who is enthroned from of old, who does not change – He will hear [our enemies] and humble them, because they have no fear of God.” (Psalm 55.19)
