Some KYB History

Some KYB History

I am in office clean-up mode this year and recently tackled the box labeled KYB History.  I found a bulletin article that a few of you might remember and the rest of you should profit from reading.

[from NS bulletin – June 8, 1986]  “Last Sunday morning the congregation was presented with  details of our upcoming TV program, ‘Know Your Bible.’ Rapid progress is being made toward the debut on July 13. A financial challenge was also issued to the congregation. Since we have undertaken this program without any money set aside in the budget, it’s obvious we need to raise a considerable sum. It will require $700 per week for TV time and $450 each week to produce and operate the program, for a total of $1150 per week. We are asking that Northside members prayerfully consider making sacrificial offerings so we can have the 25  broadcast Sundays of 1986 paid for.

On Sunday, July 13, we will begin the class period with a collection of these gifts and then watch the debut program together. … July 13 will be a joyful time for Northside as her members rise up and meet this great challenge that is part of the great opportunity which God has provided.”

[The rest of the story] The congregation was being asked for $29,000 ($85,000 in today’s dollars), and the gifts totaled $54,000 ($156,000 in today’s dollars). For over 37 years, Northsiders have continued to give in faith in support of the KYB ministry. No one (in this life) can tell how much the Kingdom has grown as a result. But we can look back and realize that it all began with some giant steps of faith. First, by the elders who signed a TV contract with no money on hand, and second, by the Northsiders who gave like the Macedonians. (According to Paul in 2 Corinthians 8:3 – “For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord…”)
