Jesus lived an amazing life.
He did miracles that were undeniable. He taught the truth like no one had ever taught the truth. He loved the left outs. He dined with drunkards. He sat with sinners. He healed people and did much good in His short three years of ministry. He grabbed the attention of everyone from pagan to Pharisee. His disciples must have followed him out of both commitment and curiosity.
Love him or hate him, the one thing you could not do was ignore Him. And for a time, it seemed nothing or no one could stop him. But, that all seemed to change on a Friday long, long ago.
On that day, they watched the man who had healed so many, be beaten and flogged beyond recognition. On that day, they heard a crowd who just a week ago had christened Him “Hosanna!” now chastising him as Heretic and blasphemer! On that day, the disciples’ dreams of a new kingdom became a nightmare. They fled from and wept over and scattered away and hid and cursed and denied the precious Lamb and friend who they had followed faithfully for three years.
Then, for two of the longest days in human history, darkness and death reigned.
The Son of God killed. The rocks shook. The sun went dark. The curtain in the temple was torn.
And the disciples were scared for their lives and anxious in their hearts.
But, then Sunday came.
That morning, the women came to prepare the body, and perhaps themselves, for the cold & cruel reality and finality of the death of their rabbi, Savior, and friend. As they walked, they came upon an empty tomb and a mysterious gardener. They were the first in line to witness The Resurrection and the Life. But, they would not be the last.
Many who saw, believed. Hundreds more would behold His
Glory before He ascended back to heaven. Many more of us never saw, are still able to believe in the power of that powerful Resurrection.
That Sunday, the Messiah, once and forever, stole both the sting and the victory from death.
On that Sunday, Jesus showed that He is truly both Lord and Christ.
On that Sunday, He brought a new hope for all who have full faith in Him.
On that Sunday, our glorious God showed His omnipotent power over sin and death.
On that Sunday, Heaven conquered Hell, and the Lamb of God defeated the Ancient Serpent.
