Upcoming Sunday and Wednesday Bible Classes

Upcoming Sunday and Wednesday Bible Classes

Beginning Sunday, February 15, we’re going to study the Old Testament books of Ruth and Esther. In the lives of Ruth and Naomi, we will come to a better understanding that “the sovereignty and wisdom and kindness of God often come to us through hard circumstances in our lives, and often we survive them only through His providence and through the kindness of others.”

The story of Queen Esther is more complicated. We will be reminded of a well-known verse: “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance… will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish.  And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” We will study its historical context and its applicability for us today.

On Wednesday evenings, starting February 11, we’ll offer the Bible classes listed below.

JESUS and PEOPLE (Steve Tandy, Auditorium)

Dale Carnegie got rich teaching people How to Win Friends and Influence People, but Jesus was the original people person. If we are to follow His example, we should certainly consider how He dealt with different kinds of people. We will search the Gospels and see how He interacted with friends and enemies, followers and foes, sinners and religious folks, believers and skeptics. We will see Jesus in a whole new way as we explore “Jesus and People.”

GALATIANS (Kimberly Babiash, Fireside Room; Brenden Weathers, ALIVE classroom)

In Acts 14, Paul taught and converted many in Lystra, Derbe, and Iconium. However, false teachers moved in quickly and began to contradict the gospel of Christ, and they confused some of the believers. What can we learn from this study? Paul wrote to these   churches in southern Galatia and challenged them: “Stay true in your faith! Remember the things I taught you! Commit yourself to God’s truth and do not be confused by false teaching.” Our study of Galatians will consider these contrasts: true gospel vs. false      teaching, faith vs. works, law vs. grace, liberty vs. legalism, sonship vs. slavery, and the fruit of the Spirit vs. the desires of the flesh.
