Walking in the Light

Walking in the Light

Recently, I was encouraged by a sermon a friend texted me on the benefits of walking in the light. Three truths stood out: walking in the light promotes fellowship, exposes sin, and invites the cleansing power of the blood of Christ.

While these truths are encouraging, they also challenge me. Walking in the light requires a willingness to  allow God to reveal what I often try to hide—my thoughts, attitudes, and internal struggles. Even though I desire peace, freedom, and closeness with God, at times I resist or at least gently walk away from the exposure necessary to experience them.

Scripture reminds me in 1 John1:7, “If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son purifies us from all sin.” Notice the order: walking in the light comes before cleansing. We cannot experience the fullness of God’s grace while avoiding His truth.

At times, I have felt ashamed of thoughts or patterns I would never share with others, perhaps you have felt something similar? However, God does not expose these areas to condemn us, but to restore us. Romans 8:1 assures us that there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.

One helpful practice I have found is to “purge and infuse.” We purge by confessing and releasing harmful thoughts, and we infuse by renewing our minds with God’s truth (Romans 12:2). In doing so, we align ourselves with who God says we are.

Walking in the light brings purity, clarity, and spiritual prosperity in the areas of my mind and life only God and I truly exist! In need of being cleansed, refreshed and made anew. Restoration in Christ is what we all should desire and seek.

A few questions to consider:

1)  How willing are you to allow the light of Christ to bring exposure to sin in your life?

2)  Do you trust and believe the blood of Christ to cleanse, restore and renew?

3) Have you become consistently resistant to proper sin exposure?
