Walking Like Jesus Walked (In Step with the Holy Spirit)

“Walking Like Jesus Walked (In Step with the Holy Spirit)”

On Sunday, November 16, Northside will begin a new study that will be different from most of our Bible classes. “Walking Like Jesus Walked (In Step with the Holy Spirit)” will focus on individual growth and personal accountability. Each class will include a brief review of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, a specific example from Jesus’ life, and then a group discussion on the question: What is the gap between my life and the life of Jesus? When God blesses this study, Northside will be able to share increased Bible knowledge and then lift each other up and as we grow in God’s Holy Spirit.

Here are three keys to our upcoming study:

  1. We will come to a better understanding that personal growth is a requirement for God’s people. After listing some important believer qualities, we find these words in 2 Peter 1.8: “For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Peter exhorts us to pursue effectiveness and productivity in our Christian walk.
  2. We will develop a higher standard of how we are supposed to represent Christ in our daily lives. Paul told the Thessalonians to live a “quiet life” (1 Thess 4.11), but when we read verse 12, we have a better understanding, “… make it your ambition to lead a quiet life … so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders …”. Peter said it this way: “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us.” (1 Peter 2.12)
  3. We need to reconsider self-examination in this study, and then we will encourage each other. “Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith” (2 Cor 13.5) and “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works.” (Hebrews 10.24)

Sometimes we study God’s word for comfort or encouragement, sometimes we’re preparing to teach a class, but for this coming quarter, let’s study God’s Word for the purpose of improving our daily service to God. What are the specific challenges that stand as an obstacle for improving our daily walk with His Spirit? How can we grow in the fruit of the Holy Spirit? Let’s find out together.
