Mission Trip to Ukraine

Mission Trip to Ukraine

On October 23, Northside members Katy Brooks and Laura Petersburg returned to Wichita after spending six weeks in Bila Tserkva, Ukraine, doing mission work with the Let’s Start Talking ministry. Here’s what I learned after visiting with them about their trip.

People who want to practice their English were invited to spend an hour reading and talking with Laura or Katy. The way the gospel is shared through this ministry is that these students read from books of the Bible. They work on understanding and pronouncing words correctly and talk about what they are reading. According to Laura, the goal of these reading sessions is to plant seeds that God will help to grow.

Each week, the readers were invited to parties at the church building, and 10-20 would attend. These fellowships involved food, games, a devo, and conversations about God.

LST has been highly successful around the world. In Bila Tserkva, for example, the local preacher and many church members were introduced to Christ through this ministry.

In addition to reading with people, Katy and Laura served in other ways. The Bear Valley Bible Institute has a branch school that meets at the church building to train men and women in the Word. Laura and Katy spent a lot of time getting to know the students and preparing meals for them. Katy said the students have a strong desire to spread the gospel in their country.

Laura expressed their thanks for Northside’s support. She said it was a blessing to receive encouraging messages and to be covered in prayer.

Thank you, Katy and Laura, for sacrificing your time for this important work!
